Janie Fouch - School Director
Mrs. Fouch graduated from NMSU (now Truman State University) in 1985 with a BSE in Science. She holds a lifetime teaching certificate in the state of Missouri. After teaching in the public schools for 4 years, she was asked by Faith Lutheran Church to accept the preschool/kindergarten position at Faith Lutheran School. In 1987 Janie completed her Early Childhood Certification. In 1995, after several years of classes and study through Concordia College, River Forest, she became a commissioned minister of religion. Janie has been at Faith Lutheran School for 28 years and is the current school director. She has 6 children and 8 grandchildren.
Amanda Maize - 1st Year Preschool
Miss Amanda returned to Faith Lutheran School in 2014 as our First Year Preschool teacher. She previously taught here at Faith Lutheran from 2005-2012 as our Second Year Preschool teacher. Miss Amanda has also taught as an elementary substitute at FLS and a middle and high school substitute for the Kirksville R-III School District. Miss Amanda has a Bachelor's in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a Master's in Elementary Education Administration.
Judy Carlisle - 1st Year Preschool Assistant
Ms. Judy was born in the “Bible Belt” at Tulsa, Oklahoma. She moved to the Show-Me State at the age of four and later graduated from Kirksville High School. She earned both her B.S in Education and Master of Arts in Health and Physical Education from Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College (now Truman State University).
Her first teaching job was with the Kirksville Public Schools where she retired after 32 ½ years educating the area’s youth. She instructed all age-levels of students in health and physical education as well as coaching basketball, track and field, cheerleading, pep club, intramurals, and dance drill teams. During this time Ms. Judy contributed as a writer for the Missouri State Health and Physical Education curriculum guide. Ms. Judy also worked as an adjunct professor in Health Education for Moberly Area Community College. After retiring from the public schools, Ms. Judy worked as a Distance Learning Coordinator for the School of Health Management at ATSU, a substitute teacher for Kirksville Public Schools, State of Missouri Division of Youth Services teacher, and finally found a new home at Faith Lutheran School.
Ms. Judy is blessed to be the mother of two daughters, Sally and Carrie, as well as six grandchildren. Sally is currently the Associate Dean of Faculty at Chamberlain College of Nursing, Tinley Park, IL and Carrie is pursuing a career in real estate in southern Florida. Judy’s passion is helping, guiding, and loving her children and grandchildren. Faith Lutheran School with her former students and staff have provided a strong spiritual foundation for Judy’s students, her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Stephanie Winder - After School Program Director, Preschool Assistant
Stephanie Winder is a graduate of Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly and is certified in Christian Education. She is the mother of three children and brings several years of experience working with preschoolers to FLS. This is her second year on staff at Faith Lutheran School. She worked last year in the 1st year preschool classroom and also teachers summer school at FLS.
Jane Graf - 2nd Year Preschool
Mrs. Graf (known to our students as "Grandma Jane") has a B.S. in Education and many graduate courses with an emphasis in guidance. She previously taught 1st and 3rd grades in the Fairfield, Iowa Schools. She taught Kindergarten in the Van Buren, Iowa Community Schools for 9 years, and taught for 21 years in upper elementary math and science. She was the lead teacher of the after-school program there, and also directed the summer camp pogram for 3 years. Mrs. Graf also directed her own preschool for two years. Following her retirement from the public schools, Mrs. Graf trained and worked as a math instructional coach. This position included mentoring of teachers, comparing school math curriculum for grades K-8 with Iowa and national standards, as well as analyzing national testing results. Mrs. Graf has been married to her husband, Richard, for 46 years. They have two sons, six grandchildren, and one great! She enjoys gardening, quilting, reading, and collecting antiques. This is her fourth year at Faith Lutheran School.
Sharla Eagen - 2nd Year Preschool
Mrs. Eagen has worked at Faith Lutheran School since 1993. In addition to working with the 2nd year preschoolers, Mrs. Eagen also assists in the office with finances. She is married to Mark and has three sons and one beautiful grandson. She enjoys scrapbooking, gardening, and is a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers.
Belinda Mechlin - Daycare Supervisor
Mrs. Mechlin has 35+ years of teaching experience, and has been the Daycare Supervisor at Faith Lutheran School for 7 years. Mrs. Mechlin holds a Master’s degree in Education from Lesley University, specializing in curriculum and instruction, and has an additional 75 hours of graduate instruction. Mrs. Mechlin is organized and creative and is committed to a high quality of education for all children. She is the former co-chair of the Young Author’s Conference in Columbia, Missouri, and has facilitated literacy and math nights for K-3rd grades.
Jackie Skinner - 1st, 2nd Grade and Daycare Assistant
Known as “Ms. Jackie” to her students, Mrs. Skinner has been at Faith Lutheran School for 7 years. She has 67 hours at the MACC Kirksville campus, including credits in Early Childhood Education. She is married to Chad and has two sons - Nathan, 13 and Jacob, 10. Her family raises chickens and goats.
Debbie Hoshaw - Pre-Kindergarten
Mrs. Hoshaw has been working at Faith Lutheran School since the fall of 1995. She graduated from NMSU (now Truman State University) in 1992 with a B.S. in Family Sciences/Child Development. Prior to teaching at Faith Lutheran, she worked for Douglas Community Services Head Start in Hannibal and in Macon County, then at Kirksville Day Care center. Mrs. Hoshaw is a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this ministry. Mrs. Hoshaw is married to Kevin, and has one son, Bennett. Bennett attended Faith Lutheran School from the time he was three years old, until he graduated from 5th grade; the program has been a blessing to the Hoshaw family.
Joy Mitchell - Pre-Kindergarten
Ms. Mitchell (known as Miss Joy to her students) graduated from Schyler R-1 High School and attended NMSU, where she had perfect attendance! Ms. Mitchell has worked as a substitute teacher for Schuyler R-1 and Kirksville R-III schools. She has been at Faith Lutheran School for 17 years. Joy also has taught Sunday School at Queen City Christian Church. Ms. Mitchell has four daughters. She grew up on a dairy farm, loves to swim, and uniquely has trophies for her skills in arm wrestling and pool.
Jessica Tiberi - Kindergarten
Miss Tiberi brings fresh excitement to our kindergarten classroom. A recent graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Early Childhood Education, Miss Tiberi has previous teaching experience in the Columbia Public Schools.
Sue Schlueter - Kindergarten Aide
Sue Schlueter taught for 30 years as an instructor of K-12 students with disabilities, a career and technical evaluator, a special needs counselor, and a career and technical and high school counselor. Sue is the mother of a dear, sweet daughter, Mikaela, who is going into 10th grade this year, and the proud wife of Richard who works for the Missouri Department of Agriculture and is the Associate Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church. She feels very blessed to be part of the staff at Faith Lutheran where she also serves as the church secretary.
Jane Thompson - 1st and 2nd Grades
Jane Thompson enjoys teaching and working with children. She believes it is a pleasure to see them learn and mature in so many areas of their lives. Mrs. Thompson has taught at Faith Lutheran School for 16 years and taught eight years previously. She has taught in every grade 1 through 8 at one time or another. Mrs. Thompson holds an MA in elementary education from Western Governors University and a BA from Central Bible College in Springfield with additional hours from MU-Springfield and Trenton State College, among others. She is certified in teaching in the states of Missouri and Utah. Mrs. Thompson has worked as an editorial assistant with a Christian publisher and has written Sunday school curriculum on assignment.
Connie Charles - 3rd and 4th Grades
Mrs. Charles is a Kirksville native and a graduate of Kirksville High School. She studied music at Northeast Missouri State University from 1976-1977 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman) in May of 1988. She taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade over a 9-year tenure at Schuyler County from 1988-1997. In 1991 she received a Master’s Degree in Administration from NMSU (Truman). She served as the Principal and Director of Special Programs at Adair County R-1 Schools from 1997-2009. In 2000, she received a Specialist in Administration degree from Northwest Missouri in Maryville. She has taught at Faith Lutheran School since 2009.
Mrs. Charles says that growing up in Kirksville gave her a rich life of opportunities through her family, church, the schools and colleges, along with an agricultural influence. She and her husband, Bill Charles, (better known as Buck) have been married over 20 years. They enjoy traveling, reading, working together and time together at Lake of the Ozarks. Mrs. Charles has a strong faith in Christ and has been given opportunities to be active in her church choir, children’s programs, and various other paths to serve Him, including teaching at Faith Lutheran.
Pam Richmond - 3rd and 4th Grade Assistant
Megan Driving Hawk - 3rd and 4th Grade Assistant, Art Teacher
Mrs. Driving Hawk joins Faith Lutheran School from Arizona. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and a Master of Education and Teacher Certification from Arizona State University. She specializes in art and brings a wealth of creative experience to FLS.
Marge Kaden - 5th and 6th Grades
Marge Kaden has lived with her family on a farm in Schuyler County for over 40 years. She graduated from William Penn University in 1991 and started teaching at Schuyler R-1 Elementary. At the end of the 2015-2016 school year she completed 25 years of teaching 5th and 6th graders. She loves spending time with her family, which includes seven grandchildren. Reading and gardening are activities she enjoys. Mrs. Kaden and her husband, Ivan, have been active members of Faith Lutheran since 1975. This is her second year teaching at Faith Lutheran School.
Debra Lawrence - 7th and 8th Grades
Ms. Lawrence has been an educator for many years. She attended Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University) where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist. She later attended Northwest Missouri State University where she received a Specialist degree in Educational Administration. Ms. Lawrence has taught sixth grade, fourth grade and high school mathematics. She also taught many years of summer school, both as credit recovery and enrichment, for grades K-8. She served as a junior high coach for 15 years. She has also served as an elementary principal for five years and a superintendent for five years. This is her fifth year at FLS.
Ms. Lawrence loves to travel to experience the different aspects of history and other cultures. She has been fortunate to have traveled to several different countries in Europe. She also loves to read and has enjoyed reading books of different types as long as she can remember.
Cheryl Flaim - Administration, 5th and 8th Math, 7th-8th Science
Ms. Flaim is a 1998 graduate of the University of Washington with a B.A. in History (education track). She completed her Master of Divinity from George Fox Evangelical Seminary in May 2013 . Ms. Flaim has previously served as a Youth and Family Minister and has 19 years of experience working with children and youth. This is her 9th year at FLS. Ms. Flaim also serves as the pastor of Mt. Zion UMC near Atlanta, Missouri. In addition to her experience working with students and the church, she has a background in web design, online media, and publicity. She has written Bible study and Vacation Bible School curriculum and enjoys writing as a hobby.
Sheri Baker - Teacher Assistant
Mrs. Baker holds a B.S. in Social Work with an early childhood emphasis. She has been at Faith Lutheran School for 5 years. Mrs. Baker previously taught preschool in Sedalia for 5 years and served as the After School Program Director at Greenwood Elementary School in Kirksville. She has worked as a substitute teacher in the Kirskville School District and for Faith Lutheran School. Mrs. Baker is originally from Chicago, enjoys traveling and 60s-80s pop culture.
Jackie Pickens - Reading Specialist and IEP coordinator
Mrs. Pickens recently retired from her position as Elementary Special Education Teacher/Coordinator for the La Plata R-II School District, which was a position she held for 27 years. She is continuing in her role as an Autism Consultant for 16 schools in the northeast Missouri area on an as-needed basis. Mrs. Pickens received her Bachelor's Degree in 1986 from Truman State University and her Master's Degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1999. Many years ago, Mrs. Pickens served on the board of Kids Korner Day Care, which was a part of the Faith Lutheran Church School. Both of her daughters attended Kids Korner and Faith Lutheran Preschool. This is her fourth year on staff at FLS.
Aaron Rye - Physical Education Teacher
Elaine AuBuchon - Music
Ms. AuBuchon teaches music at Faith Lutheran School for pre-kindergarten through middle. She instructs the students in vocal performance and also teaches recorder to the upper elementary students. Ms. AuBuchon also offers band and choir for the 5th-8th grade grade FLS students. In addition to teaching music at Faith Lutheran School, Ms. AuBuchon teaches the oboe and bassoon studios, woodwind methods and perspectives in music at Truman State University. She received a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and then moved to the Chicago area where she graduated with a Master of Music from Northwestern University. She is the English hornist with the Quad City Symphony and has been the principal oboist of the Elmhurst Symphony, the Waukesha Symphony, and the Missouri Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas as well as various other professional orchestras and chamber groups in the Chicago area.
